MINUTES:
August 25, 2008
Monday, August 25, 2008 6:30 pm Rangely Town Hall Present: Julia Davis, Jeanette Justus, Martha Mitchem, Robert Haag, Chris Eahehart, and Wendy Roberts.
Septemberfest planning:
Meet at Elks park on Sunday at 5:30 pm to set up the booth. Arrive at the park on Monday morning at 8 am to collect and hang art. Stay with booth until 5 pm. Only one vote per person for Public Choice award to make things easier. Certificates will be made up before with blanks to fill in at end of show. Wendy to get $500 from Tim Webber on Wednesday for prize money. We will add what entry fees come in that day to prize money and give out at end of day. A record needs to be sent to Tim. Winners to be photographed with their piece for the write up in the paper.
ESA Bazaar:
Interest in getting two booths side by side at the bazaar to sell arts and crafts that local artist make. Should be low cost stuff...or it won't get sold. Need an e-mail to request amount of interest in this endeavor before we purchase booths with RAC moneys. Bazaar is Nov. 16th this year at Parkview Elementary School.
Brenda Hopkins is the contact person for this event should we decide to join it.
Artist of the Month:
Ammorette wants to continue this even after the remodel of the library. Julia Davis said the High School artists could take on March.
White River Coffee Table Book:
A project proposed by Robert Haag. Photographs of all 200 miles of White river at all different times of day to be included in a large coffee table book. Julia Davis thinks she can bind the book. Robert could do the research and write up for the front of the book. Would take a year.
Show & Tell:
Now that Septemberfest is almost over, we were thinking that the next meetings could be that of a "show and tell" social rather than a "get things planned" meeting. We'd love to have Tim Meinen host October's RAC "Show and Tell" and have a painting party. Chris Eahehart will take November and meet at his sign shop to see him demonstrate pinstripe-ing a car on Nov. 17th at 6:30 pm...note the week change because of the holiday. Martha Mitchem would like to take on January with her photography. It was decided that we don't need a meeting in September (Septemberfest) or in December (Holiday).
Lots of talk about preserving the historical places in Rangely. Robert Haag would like to see plaques on the 5 original buildings dating before the 1930's. Chris talked of a sign with an old photograph to mark the importance of the site. Robert says a map for a walking tour down main street could then be made to show people where they are. Talk about getting the Rangely Museum and Town of Rangely behind this effort. Still talk of public art and murals for down town.
Great meeting with fresh new ideas. Thanks for coming and see you all at Septemberfest!!!
Thanks,
Wendy Roberts

Dear All,
In tonight's meeting of the Rangely Arts Council held at the Rangely Town Hall at 6:30pm we were small in numbers and content and thus the meeting was short.
In tonight's meeting of the Rangely Arts Council held at the Rangely Town Hall at 6:30pm we were small in numbers and content and thus the meeting was short.
"Artist of the Month" was discussed. Connie Hughes is the current artist of the month, with beautiful oil paintings. Go to the library and see her work. Chris Eahehart is taking December. January is for Beth Wiley. February will be done by Marta Call and March will be Christine Smith.
John Urbanik is heading up the Performance Art Committee and is having the first in monthly DVD concert series happening this Friday evening at 7pm at the Rangely High School Auditorium. It is free, but donations will be taken for much needed renovations to the auditorium. The concert will be The Eagles latest Concert DVD. The Mitchems are sponsoring this activity by paying for the advertisement in the Rio Blanco Herald Times, look for it on Thursday.
We decided that it will be difficult to meet during the holidays, so our next meeting will be Monday, January 28th (the 4th Monday!) In looking at the 2008 calendar, there are many 3rd week holidays or days off from school that might impede good attendance. We'll see you all at that time and hope that you have a great holiday!

We nailed down the Septemberfest ART SHOW poster, logistics and entry procedures and rallied voluteers to help with the event. If you'd like to volunteer at Septemberfest, email us or call Wendy Roberts at 970 675-2130. We also learned about opportunities for local artists at the new Sand & Sage Gallery opening up downtown. Stay tuned for more info!
July 23, 2007
We had another good turnout for our 4th meeting, with new faces, energy and great ideas. We focused on planning the Septemberfest Art Show, which will be held labor day weekend in Elks Park.
June 18, 2007
We had another great turnout for our 3rd meeting, which had a number of new faces and great ideas. We focused on primarily on planning for our 4th of July fundraiser and updates on other current RAC events, such as our very successful first Artist of the Month: Chuck Allred, at the Library. The group decided to table the name change discussion for the time being.

Second Arts Council Successful!
by Wendy Roberts
Friday, May 11th the second meeting of the newly formed Rangely Arts Council was held at 6:30 at the Rangely Town Hall. The room was again full of interested, excited artists and supporters. Elizabeth Robinson Wiley and Wendy Roberts, co-founders, had much to report on and the members had great input. They are considering a new name that could reflect their purpose and include Meeker and Dinosaur and surrounding areas to our group. They want to invite all interested people to become involved.
A new program they announced is "Art in the Library" where a featured artist of the month will show their body of work at the Rangely Public Library thanks to Amorette Hawkins. The first artist of the month will be Chuck Allred in June, who will show his bronze sculptures and drawings of wildlife. Chuck studied art at Brigham Young University and has taught ceramics at CNCC. Be sure you stop by the library in June to view his work.
Committees were formed for a 4th of July Silent Auction to be held in conjunction with the Rangely Chamber of Commerce sale of Navajo Tacos at Kenney Reservoir. Art donated by members of the Art Council will be auctioned off as a fund raiser to jump start this rising new group. Patti Tipton, who came up with the idea, will head this effort.
John and Barbara Urbanik, both theatre buffs, will take on the Performance Art committee with ideas to feature community theatre, field trips to see performances in other cities and promote local performance art.
Charlie and Maria Hickman and their "Waving Hands Club" have agreed to be committee leaders to preserve outdoor murals, and paint new ones.
Chris Eaharhart will help us out with public art. Watch out Rangely, we are ready to bring more culture and art to this town!
April 20, 2007
We had a great turnout for our first meeting, thanks to everyone who came and participated! There was a lot of enthusiasm.
Here are some highlights that attendees were interested in, let us know if you'd be interested in being involved as well:
- Performing Art: a number of attendees were interested in seeing more performances come to town, or perhaps in some form of community theater.
- SEPTEMBERFEST: Folks agreed that having RAC organize the annual Septemberfest Art Show was a good idea. There was discussion about having the show in the park under a tent. We are currently looking for a tent to borrow and volunteers to help organize and set up the show.
- Plein Air Painting Group: Some attendees are interested in gathering to paint outdoors together.
- Public Art: A number of folks are interested in seeing more murals and other public art downtown, and restoring existing aging murals.
- 4th of July Art Auction: Some folks came up with the idea of doing an art auction at the annual 4th of July fireworks at the reservoir with art donated by members to raise money for the Arts Council. Let us know if you'd be willing to help or make a donation (it doen't necessarily have to be art)
- Name Change: There was also talk about changing the name of the arts council to refect a broader geographical range, i.e. White River Arts Council
